Los Angeles police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed a 16-year-old boy during a botched carjacking, authorities said Wednesday.
Victor Manuel Lopez of Lynwood was killed about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the unincorporated area of East Rancho Dominguez between Compton and Paramount, police said.
Lopez was riding in the front passenger seat of a car with at least three other youths when they stopped in front of a house in the 14700 block of Cookacre Street, police said.
A gunman walked up to the passenger side and demanded that everyone get out, police said. When the driver tried to speed away, the gunman shot Lopez in the upper torso, police said.
Lopez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
