Lockdown lifted at N.C. college after report of an armed man

Police on Friday called off a search for a man possibly carrying a gun or other weapon at a North Carolina university and classes were expected to return to their normal schedule by mid-afternoon.
Shortly after 9 a.m., the campus of North Carolina A&T; State University in Greensboro was locked down after university police received a report of an armed man near one of the main classroom buildings.
No shots were fired, university officials reported. A little after noon local time, a search by university and local police turned up no sign or an armed man.
Other local schools that had been locked down because of the search also resumed their normal schedules, according to Greensboro’s News & Record.
As soon as the first call came in to police, students and teachers were instructed to stay in place and lock the doors and windows while police investigated, the News & Record reported.
Founded in 1890, the school specializes in engineering and agricultural pursuits.
As of the fall semester, North Carolina A&T; had about 12,000 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs.
Earlier this week, an incident at Lone Star College near Houston left 14 people injured. Police there said a 20-year-old man used a razor-like blade to slash at his victims.
