Seventy-four years ago Monday, on Dec. 7, 1941, Japan brought World War II to America.
Launching a surprise attack, swarms of Japanese aircraft devastated the American fleet at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Sailors died in sinking ships. Scores of U.S. aircraft were destroyed.
The strike was one of the most pivotal moments in the nation's history, thrusting the U.S. into a global conflict against Japan, as well as Nazi Germany and Italy. Ultimate victory would not arrive until 1945.
