Tripod mistaken for rifle at Chaminade High; lockdown lifted
A lockdown at Chaminade High School was lifted Tuesday afternoon after Los Angeles police determined that a report of “an unknown male with a gun†actually turned out to be harmless pieces of a school project.
A parent reported an armed man in a trench coat at the West Hills school around 9:40 a.m., prompting a campus lockdown.
Officers from the LAPD’s Topanga division were sent to the campus, said Officer Diana Figueroa.
They searched the area and went room-to-room at the school but did not find a gunman, authorities said. They later determined that the call was the result of a misunderstanding.
The caller mistook a tripod and speakers that were part of a school project for a weapon, LAPD officials said.
