Woman in rabbit ears steals all the Halloween candy at San Diego house

Leave it to a grown woman wearing fuzzy bunny ears to steal Halloween candy from kids.

On Halloween night, San Diego resident Nathan Brown and his roommates set out several boxes of full-sized candy bars outside their house for trick-or-treaters, Fox 5 reported. They left a note: “Help yourself but please be considerate!â€

They thought it’d be “fun to see who takes what,†Brown told the television station.

And for the most part, the costumed kids took a candy bar or two and moved on. Then came the woman in the rabbit ears, the short, silky dress and, apparently, a hankering for chocolate.

Security video showed the woman, who walked up with a masked child, linger until other children left and start shoving candy bars into a trick-or-treating bucket. She and the child cleaned out the candy supply, making off with about 50 candy bars, Brown told Fox 5.

In the video, she appears to talk to the child who came with her as they both grab the chocolate. They walked off, leaving an empty table for the next child who walked up.

Brown said he and his roommates had left their house for about an hour and checked the security video to see which kids took the most candy, according to Fox 5. They thought of it as a “social experiment,†knowing that kids had the opportunity to help themselves.

But he was furious when he saw that it was an adult chocolate thief and posted the video to YouTube.

“You’d think they would appreciate someone putting out a full candy bar, that, you know, maybe we should save some for the kids, but no, that’s not how it works,†Brown told Fox 5. “Apparently there’s one bad apple that has to ruin it for everyone.â€

He said he was saddened that she appeared to be encouraging the child with her to take more.

“That’s what really bummed me out about the whole situation,†he said. “It’s a bad example for the kids.â€
