Two water main breaks in Hollywood cause street damage and road closures

Water main breaks in Hollywood damaged streets and caused road closures Thursday morning.
Crews were working on repairs after an 8-inch water main was reported leaking near Melrose Avenue and Gower Street after 3 a.m. Water has been shut off and there is street damage in the area, L.A. Department of Water and Power officials said.

Lanes on Melrose Avenue were closed in both directions from Gower to Beachwood Drive, LADWP officials said. Water service is expected to be restored by 2 p.m. and 10 customers are affected by the shutoff.
There are also crews working near Vermont and Melrose avenues, where a 12-inch water main leaked. The report on the second break came at about 5 a.m.
