Family of slain Victorville store clerk asks killer to surrender
Authorities continued to investigate the mysterious shooting of a store clerk at a mini-mart in Victorville that left a father of four dead.
Daniel Olivera, 26, of Hesperia, was found shot to death Sunday with wounds to his upper body, authorities said.
Olivera worked two jobs to provide for his family, which begged the public for help in catching the person or persons responsible for his slaying.
“My life just got taken away, I don’t have a life no more,†Olivera’s girlfriend, Janet Iris Cruz, told KTLA-TV.
“They’re cowards, they shot him in the back,†Cruz said.
Olivera’s four children range in age from 6 months to 7 years old.
Olivera’s son, Danny Jr., described his dad as the “best man ever†to KTLA and said he wanted to grow up to be just like him.
“If you have a heart, just turn yourself in,†the boy said.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said Olivera was chatting with a security guard outside the front doors of the AM/PM store when he was killed.
“He was standing outside of the store when he fell to the ground,†she said.
Some customers and people pumping gas told authorities they heard a “pop†before Olivera collapsed, but no one identified it as a gunshot, and they did not see a shooter, Bachman said.
“It’s very strange,†Bachman told TV reporters. “There’s no altercation going on and suddenly he’s shot.â€
Investigators were looking for surveillance video in an attempt to identify the shooter.
Anyone with information is asked to call the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department at (909) 387-3589.
