Trayvon Martin rally in downtown L.A. turns into a march
About 400 people who gathered in downtown Los Angeles for a “Justice for Trayvon†rally have begun marching down Spring Street to continue their demonstration, part of a national day of protest to pressure the federal government to investigate Trayvon Martin’s death.
Chanting “No Justice, No Peace†and waving signs that said “Wake Up America,†the crowd made its way from the federal building in the Civic Center before beginning a peaceful march south on Spring Street. A few police officers were on hand to monitor the crowd.

No problems were reported as the marchers passed police headquarters on Spring between 1st and 2nd streets. It was unclear where the marchers were headed.
Similar rallies were being held throughout California and the nation to protest a Florida jury’s acquittal July 13 of George Zimmerman, 29, on charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the shooting death of the unarmed African American teenager last year. Around the country, dozens of street protests in response to the verdict last week turned violent.
Rallies are also planned Saturday in Riverside, Palmdale, Sacramento, San Francisco and Oakland as well as New York, Miami and elsewhere.
