Highland Park Gold Line station reopens after suspicious package prompts evacuation

The Gold Line station in Highland Park was briefly shut down and evacuated Wednesday evening after a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy encountered a suspicious package, authorities said.

The package was described as being plugged into an electrical socket at the station and having a clock on top of it, Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Maradiaga said.

The deputy reported the suspicious package about 7:10 p.m. at the station in the 200 block of North Avenue 58, but by 9:30 p.m., sheriff’s officials had deemed the station safe and rail service soon resumed.

During the station’s closure, a bus service shuttled riders between the Southwest Museum and South Pasadena stations.
