Student arrested with replica gun in his locker in Spring Valley
Reporting from San Diego — A 14-year-old boy at Monte Vista High in Spring Valley was arrested Friday after sheriff’s deputies found a replica gun and drugs in his locker during a lockdown, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies had gone to the school in the eastern San Diego County suburb after receiving a report that a student had brought a gun to campus.
When his locker was searched, deputies found a replica of a “western, old-style handgun,’’ the Sheriff’s Department said. Whether the replica is a working firearm is unclear.
Monte Vista was one of five schools in the county that underwent lockdowns Friday because of threats.
The other four schools were in San Diego. The four were apparently mentioned by an anonymous caller who warned of bombs on the campuses. No bombs were found and no arrests were made.
On Thursday, a 29-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of making a threat to “shoot up†three schools in Lakeside in eastern San Diego County. The woman has four children at one of the schools. All three schools went on lockdown.
