A man was found stabbed to death outside the Glendale Courthouse early Monday after another man with stab wounds called police then collapsed across the street in front of the city’s Police Department.

Authorities don’t know what led to the confrontation at the Civic Center, but they don’t believe anyone else was involved.

“It’s kind of bizarre,†Glendale police Sgt. Robert William said. “There are so many unanswered questions.â€

The incident started just before 2 a.m. when a man walked up to a call box outside the Glendale Police Department headquarters in the 100 block of North Isabel Street and told dispatchers he had been stabbed.

Seconds later, the man collapsed on the steps outside police headquarters. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, William said.

Meanwhile, officers followed a trail of blood that led them to the a man with extensive stab wounds lying on the sidewalk outside the courthouse at 600 block of East Broadway, across the street from City Hall, William said. William described the man’s stab wounds as gruesome. He was declared dead at the scene by authorities.

A knife was recovered at the scene.

Detectives plan to review surveillance video footage taken outside the courthouse to get more answers about what led up to the stabbings.

The bloody crime scene has prompted police to shut down the streets surrounding the city’s Civic Center and City Hall.

It is unclear whether the courthouse will open its doors to the public due to the ongoing police investigation.
