Suspect in Colton and Moreno Valley fatal shootings is detained in San Diego
A man detained early Thursday in San Diego is believed to have been involved in two separate fatal shootings in Colton and Moreno Valley this week.
The crimes began with the fatal shooting Wednesday of a 37-year-old woman at 1240 E. Washington St. in Colton. Officers responded to a call of shots fired around 5:33 p.m. and found a woman behind a business with gunshot wounds to her upper body, according to the Colton Police Department.
The woman was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where she died. The suspect in the shooting acquired a nearby vehicle and fled east on Washington street, police said.

A short while later — around 5:53 p.m. — officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department received a call about an assault with a deadly weapon in the 23600 block of Lake Valley Drive, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot to death.
Two women who were injured in the incident were taken to the hospital.
The Colton Police Department is working with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation, and a suspect has been detained, police said.
“Through the investigation, it’s been determined that both incidents are connected, and it’s believed that the suspect being detained in San Diego is possibly our suspect,†said Deputy Armando Munoz, with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
