Driver, passenger dead in suspected road rage crash in Rialto
Authorities Friday were investigating an accident in which a driver and her passenger were killed and two children seriously injured after their vehicle crashed into a tree during a suspected road rage incident in Rialto.
Police said the driver, Yvette Pulido, 31, of Fontana, got into a dispute with another motorist on the 210 Freeway shortly after exiting it near Cactus Avenue about 12:15 a.m. Thursday.
Pulido allegedly followed the other car southbound on Cactus until they were forced to stop for a train at a Metrolink crossing, said Rialto police Sgt. Richard Royce.
“When the victim tried to make a U-turn, [Pulido] rammed into the victim’s vehicle, disabling it,†Royce said.
None of the occupants in the second car were injured, authorities said.
Pulido sped away, lost control of the vehicle while trying to make a turn on Alru Street in a residential neighborhood and collided with a tree, Royce said.
Pulido and a male passenger, Martin Serrano, 32, of Bloomington in unincorporated San Bernardino County, were pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to pry Pulido’s 1-year-old and 6-year-old sons from the back seat.
The 6-year-old suffered broken legs and the younger one multiple lacerations. They were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center and were in serious but stable condition, Royce said.
An autopsy will determine if alcohol or other drugs were involved, Royce said.
