Scheduling snafu ruins prom: All dressed up, no place to go

A scheduling mix-up led to confusion and disappointment for hundreds of students at Bloomington High School when they showed up for their prom on Saturday on the wrong day.

Students from the San Bernardino County school wearing evening gowns and tuxedos showed up at Santa Anita Park expecting to attend their prom.

Instead, they discovered that their school had changed the date, but apparently failed to notify anyone.

Santa Anita Park tried to accommodate the students, finding a deejay and some finger foods. But students say it just wasn’t the same.

Many students said they spent hundreds of dollars on hair, make-up and limousines -- for nothing.

“We thought it was a joke, OK, that’s not funny,†student Selena Reyes told KABC-TV (Channel 7). “When we get there, they tell us that we have to come back home and come back next weekend.â€

Bloomington Principal Ignacio Cabrera told KABC it was a miscommunication between the school and the event planner.

“I’ve been the principal here for 13 years and I’ve never had this happen before,†he said.

The school is taking full responsibility for the mix-up and is planning a second prom — free of charge — in late May.
