Police shoot, wound armed 18-year-old in Garden Grove
Police in Garden Grove shot and wounded an 18-year-old man Monday after he allegedly aimed a black semi-automatic handgun at an officer, authorities said.
Shortly after 4 p.m., an off-duty Santa Ana police officer near Fredrick Drive and 9th Street saw a man carrying a handgun that he later tucked into his waistband, according to Lt. Bob Bogue of the Garden Grove Police Department.
A Garden Grove officer found the man about a half-mile away near Jacalene Lane and Chapman Avenue. The man pointed the handgun at the officer, Bogue said, and the officer opened fire.
The man, whose identity was not released, was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center.
The Orange County district attorney’s office is investigating the shooting, which is customary in police-involved shootings.
