5 Freeway lanes reopen after crane accident in south O.C.
All northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway in San Clemente opened at 3:50 a.m. Friday after being blocked for hours by a toppled crane, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crane overturned about 3 p.m. Thursday near Avenida Pico, officials said, forcing traffic to pass in a single lane on the right shoulder.
Traffic was backed up as far as three miles to Basilone Road.
The blockage ended soon after crews managed to remove the massive crane, officials said.
