The death of a 20-year-old woman whose body was discovered on the shore in Newport Beach in March has been deemed a homicide, officials said Monday.

The Orange County coroner’s office recently determined Tina Hoang was the victim of a homicide, according to Newport Beach police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.

The results of the coroner’s inquiry did not change the scope of the department’s investigation, which has been investigating Hoang’s death as suspicious, Lowe told the Daily Pilot.

On March 4, a passerby discovered Hoang’s body lying face down in the sand near West Oceanfront and Highland Street near lifeguard Tower 71. At the time of her death, Hoang was a recent mother who faced prostitution charges in Orange and Los Angeles counties, as well as out-of-state charges.

Lowe said to maintain the integrity of the investigation, no further information would be released.

Police asked that anyone with information about the case call Det. Garrett Fitzgerald at (949) 644-3797. Anonymous tips may be left at (800) 550-NBPD.
