Man found standing over dead mother with knife, police say
A man killed his mother in San Fernando on Thursday when he stabbed her several times in the upper torso, authorities said.
San Fernando police officers reported finding the suspect, Roman Maldonado, standing over his mother and holding a knife when they arrived in the 300 block of Harps Street at about 3:30 p.m.
The mother, Maria Perez, was lying on the ground near a doorway with multiple stab wounds, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
HOMICIDE REPORT: A story for every victim
Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives were assisting San Fernando police with the investigation.
Perez was identified as being in her 50s, Maldonado in his 30s.
Maldonado was being held without bail, authorities said.
Since January 2007, at least five other homicides have been reported in San Fernando, according to The Times’ Homicide Report database. Within the last 12 months, there has been one other homicide within a mile radius.
If ruled by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as a homicide, Perez’s death would mark the first of the year in San Fernando.
