Domestic violence suspect turns himself in
A domestic violence suspect who escaped from a hospital where he was undergoing psychiatric evalutation has turned himself in, Montebello police said Sunday.
Conrado Ferrer, 23, turned himself in about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Family members had talked him into going back to the police, said Lt. Rick Rojas, of the Montebello Police Department.
“He is back in our custody and being treated for some injuries,” Rojas said.
Ferrer was initially arrested about 1 a.m. Saturday after someone in a passing vehicle spotted him in an altercation with his girlfriend and called police, officials said.
Ferrer is accused of biting his girlfriend, knocking her over, causing her to hit her head on a block wall, and starting to choking her, police said.
Ferrer then fled when police arrived, but broke his arm jumping off the roof of an apartment building, authorities said. As he was taken into custody, he commented that he wanted to kill himself, police said. Officers took him to Beverly Hospital for treatment and psychiatric evaluation.
Ferrer, still wearing his hospital gown, disappeared from the facility about 5 a.m., setting off a manhunt.
