A funeral service for celebrated actor Mickey Rooney will be held Saturday afternoon at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, family members said.
Rooney died at 93 on April 6 at the Los Angeles home of his son and daughter-in-law, leaving a legacy as one of the most enduring performers in show business.
During his career, Rooney embodied the All-American boy in the Andy Hardy films of the 1930s and ‘40s and became one of the era’s top box-office draws. He acted opposite Judy Garland and Elizabeth Taylor, collecting award nominations for performances praised by the likes of Cary Grant, Gore Vidal and Tennessee Williams. He married starlets and beauty queens — eight times in all.
But in the wake of his death, two feuding factions of his family have gone to court over disagreements about what to do with Rooney’s remains.
One set of family members held a private service Friday afternoon at Hollywood Forever that was attended by family friends, including actor Mickey Rourke, according to a family statement.
Other Hollywood figures including Cecil B. DeMille, Douglas Fairbanks and Rudolph Valentino are buried at the cemetery.
About 9:30 a.m. Saturday, another group of Rooney’s family members arrived at Hollywood Forever for a private viewing. The funeral service is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
