Police are looking for witnesses after a 42-year-old man was fatally shot at a gathering in Hyde Park on Wednesday night.
The victim, identified by police as Adrian Ferguson, was at a party in an open courtyard in the 6500 block of South Victoria Avenue about 8 p.m. when an argument broke out, LAPD Det. Dave Garrido said.
A man pulled out a pistol and began shooting Ferguson, Garrido said. The shooter then ran north on South Victoria Avenue.
The shooting comes as the city is experiencing a rise in homicides. In August, 39 people were killed, most in South L.A.
According to department statistics through Saturday, 191 people have been killed this year -- up 4.4%, an additional eight people, from last year. At least four others have been killed since Saturday: Ferguson, and three children found stabbed to death in a parked car in the Historic South-Central neighborhood.
Anyone with information about the Hyde Park shooting can call detectives at (323) 786-51136. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
