Man found dead in burned home in Hawthorne
Homicide detectives in Hawthorne are investigating the death of a man whose body was found inside a burned home on Sunday, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the residence on the 5000 block of West 135th Street in Hawthorne about 8:30 a.m. after someone reported seeing smoke coming from the residence, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
After the fire was extinguished, authorities searching the residence found the body of a man in the living room. The man may have died of smoke inhalation, but the investigation is ongoing, according to the news release.
The sheriff’s arson and explosives detail also headed to the scene to investigate the blaze, according to the release. The name of the victim has not been released, said Deputy Amber Smith.
