Man arrested in New York state on L.A. County homicide warrant

A 51-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Santa Clarita was spotted driving a semi in New York on Monday and taken into custody, according to authorities.

Since May 6, Michael J. McGlothan has been tracked by Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators. Detectives alerted the New York State Police to McGothan’s whereabouts Monday, which led to his arrest.

McGlothan is suspected of fatally shooting 21-year-old Ledarion Allen Jr. in an apartment in the 27500 block of Sierra Highway.

Allen was found wounded in a bedroom. Deputies also found a woman -- identified only as McGlothan’s girlfriend at the time of the incident -- who had been shot in the shoulder.

Witnesses told detectives that they saw two men run in different directions from the apartment. One was seen holding a gun, which was later found thrown on the roof of a carport.

Sheriff’s Lt. Eddie Hernandez said it’s unknown what led to the shooting, adding that it could be domestic or narcotics related.

After the shooting, investigators received information that McGlothan had fled to the San Gabriel Valley and parts of West Los Angeles. He was arrested on a warrant Monday about 4 p.m. about 70 miles southwest of Buffalo, N.Y., according to a news release from the New York State Police Department.

McGlothan is in custody at a county jail, pending an extradition hearing.

Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were en route Tuesday afternoon to interview McGlothan.

Detectives were previously looking for two other people who turned themselves in. Investigators interviewed the men and determined that they were not involved in the shooting.
