Live updates from the L.A. City Council minimum wage debate
The Los Angeles City Council is expected to debate an increase to the minimum wage across the city during a meeting that begins at 10 a.m. Should the council agree to increase required hourly wages, the city attorney's office would draft an ordinance and bring it back to the council for a second vote.
The Economic Development Committee wants the city's minimum wage to be $15 per hour by July 1, 2020. Wages would gradually increase beginning next year. L.A. Times reporters Alice Walton, Peter Jamison and David Zahniser are watching the debate. Follow along with them:
