Porta-potties delivered to L.A. airport after water main breaks

Emergency crews are working to stop a water-main break that has cut service in parts of Los Angeles International Airport.

The break occurred just after 10 a.m. Monday under parking structure 2A and had cut off water service to Terminal 2, according a statement from LAX. Portable toilets were delivered to Terminal 2, and concessions inside the terminal were serving only prepackaged food.

Emergency crews were immediately called to work on the break, which Los Angeles City Department of Water and Power officials said occurred on privately owned pipes.

The parking structure was closed while crews worked to repair the break. Owners were allowed to retrieve their vehicles from the structure.

By 1:30 p.m., normal water pressure was restored to Terminal 2. The Bob Hope Hollywood USO in the central terminal area remained without water.

Some airline passengers expressed frustration at the cutoff in water service.

Ryan Williamson tweeted, “Hey!@flyLAXairport I gotta pee! And I’d like a latte. Can you please turn the water back on! This could get ugly.â€

An LAX representative responded, “Many apologies. There is a damaged pipe. We’re working very hard to fix the problem.â€
