Jogger finds body in burned car in Irvine creek
Police are investigating after a body was discovered inside a burned car in an Irvine creek bed Wednesday.
A jogger found the body about 9:20 a.m. when he saw the car in San Diego Creek and investigated, police said in a statement.
The car was found off an access road used for the Michelson Water Reclamation Plant and nearby wildlife sanctuary.
“Although near a well-traveled intersection, the area itself is concealed from view by natural barriers,†police said in a news release.
The Orange County coroner’s office and Irvine police detectives are investigating the death and, pending notification of family members, have not released an identity.
Police have not said how the car ended up in the creek, or why it had been burned but said so far there’s no evidence of a car crash, according to Times Community News.
“It’s definitely being investigated as something more than a collision,†she said.
Police ask that anyone with information call (949) 724-7000.
