Southbound lanes of 405 reopened after hit-and-run kills motorist
A hit-and-run claimed the life of an unidentified man early Sunday on the 405 Freeway in Carson, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at 2:25 a.m. near Wilmington Avenue in the southbound lanes of the freeway. KTLA reported that the victim had pulled over after his vehicle was disabled and was struck by another motorist, who drove away.
The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was subsequently struck by multiple other cars. However, the drivers of those vehicles pulled over, the CHP told KTLA.
The man’s black BMW had significant damage to the driver’s side and the door was nearly ripped off, KTLA reported.
After the accident, all southbound lanes except the carpool lane were closed when a SigAlert was issued at 3:17 a.m., according to the CHP. The lanes were reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
