Hang glider pilot hospitalized after crashing in San Jacinto
A hang glider pilot was in serious condition Sunday after he crashed in San Jacinto, fire officials said.
The 53-year-old pilot was taken to an area hospital about 1:40 p.m. after he was found at Camino Los Banos and Artesia Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
It is unclear where the pilot took off from and why he crashed, fire spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.
Hang gliding crashes are not uncommon in San Jacinto, she said. Paragliders and hang gliders frequent the area, which is home to a flight park.
A 2012 YouTube video shows several hang gliders launching into the air from nearby foothills in San Jacinto, and also offers a birds-eye view of the valley.
