Two motorcyclists have died within a week’s span of each other in similar crashes in Fountain Valley.

In the latest incident, a motorcyclist died Tuesday after colliding with another vehicle about 4:30 p.m. at Ellis Avenue and Bushard Street.

The rider, David Pascarella, 45, of Irvine, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Fountain Valley police.

Police said Pascarella was traveling eastbound on Ellis approaching Bushard. The other vehicle, a Saturn sedan, was making a left turn onto Bushard from westbound Ellis, the Daily Pilot reported.

Witnesses told authorities that Pascarella had run a red light when he collided with the other vehicle.

Preliminary investigations showed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the incident, police said.

Five days earlier, a similar crash claimed the life of another motorcyclist.

On Friday, Hovig Akmakjian, 22, of Santa Ana, died after colliding with an SUV at Slater and Magnolia avenues, Fountain Valley police said.

Witnesses told police that Akmakjian had also run a red light before colliding with the SUV.

Paramedics transported Akmakjian to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
