A father was charged Monday in the fatal stabbing his 13-month-old daughter, and with then lighting a fire in their North Hollywood apartment before jumping out of a window, prosecutors said.

Noe Torres, 48, pleaded not guilty to one count each of murder, and arson and assault on a child that lead to death, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. His bail is set at more than $2 million

Torres had been arguing with the girl’s mother on Oct. 21 in their apartment in the 13000 block of Vanowen Street, prosecutors said.

During the dispute, Torres used a knife to stab his daughter, who was identified as Rosario Torres, according to the district attorney’s office.

He then allegedly set fire to the apartment, stabbed himself and jumped out the second-story window.

As he jumped out of the window, he was partially covered in flames.

Los Angeles Police Capt. Stephen Carmona said when police arrived, a kitchen knife was still in his body. Torres, police said, refused to obey their commands to release the knife, so they used a Taser and bean bag rounds to take him into custody.

If convicted, Torres faces up to 34 years to life in state prison.
