Authorities investigating fatal shooting inside Yorba Linda home
Orange County Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man at a Yorba Linda home after the residents reported an unknown person inside, authorities said.
About 3:15 a.m., a woman called 911 from her home in the 5000 block of Wendover Road and told dispatchers that her husband had another man at gunpoint, sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock said. When deputies arrived, he said, they found that man dead of a gunshot wound.
Detectives interviewed the couple, who said they did not know the man, Hallock said. The couple have since been released, he said, though the investigation is ongoing.
The man, described as in his 20s, has been identified, Hallock said, but his name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. Hallock said investigators are now trying to determine why he was in the home.
“It appears there was some type of altercation between the husband and the suspect,†Hallock said. “But why he’s there at the house, we don’t know. We don’t know if it was an attempted burglary, a robbery, a mistaken residence, any of that yet.â€
The couple had their baby at home at the time of the incident, but relatives came to get the child soon after deputies arrived, Hallock said.
