Three injured in South El Monte shooting

A shooting that may have started as a bar fight left three men injured in South El Monte early Friday morning, officials said.

Authorities responding to a report of a gunshot victim around 2:30 a.m. eventually found the three men in three different locations, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

They found the first man, with at least one gunshot wound to his torso, outside a business in the 1900 block of Tyler Avenue, said sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Benjamin Grubb. Information from that scene led deputies to the Palaces bar at the intersection of Rosemead Boulevard and Garvey Avenue 2½ miles away. There they found a man with at least one gunshot wound to his torso and a head injury, Grubb said. A third wounded man connected to the shooting was eventually found at a hospital, Grubb said.

“We believe that the shooting occurred at Rosemead and Garvey and two of the victims left separately trying to get themselves to a hospital,†said Deputy Trina Schrader, a sheriff’s department spokeswoman. “One made it to a hospital, one didn’t make it to the hospital and one stayed at the scene.â€

All three are expected to survive, she said. Investigators do not yet know all the details because of a language barrier with the victims, Schrader said.

No weapons were recovered and authorities are still trying to determine how many shooters there were and who they may have been, Grubb said
