Convicted murderer from O.C. dies in violent fight at California prison

A 30-year-old man serving a life sentence in a Southern California prison has died after fighting with two other inmates, and state officials are investigating his death as a suspected homicide.
A dispute erupted between the three inmates about 3:15 p.m. Thursday in a maximum-security yard at Calipatria State Prison, prison spokesman Lt. Everardo Silva said in a statement.
To bring the fight to a halt, prison guards used pepper spray and foam-tipped rubber rounds, Silva said.
Kimsan Moun, an Orange County man convicted of first-degree murder, suffered at least one stab wound, said Deputy Steven Green of the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department.
Moun was treated by prison medical staff, then taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death has not been determined, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Green said.
The two other inmates involved in the fight have been taken to a separate units as officials investigate the death.
The prison, located about 140 miles northeast of San Diego, houses 3,500 inmates and has 1,280 employees.
