L.A. firefighters put out blaze on skid row, find marijuana grow
Los Angeles firefighters who responded to a structure fire near skid row Thursday night discovered a marijuana-growing operation.
The Los Angeles Fire Department received a call at 8:17 p.m. about a fire on the third floor of a building at 421 E. 6th Street, officials said.
Firefighters doused the fire in 14 minutes, a spokesman for the department said. But after controlling the flames, firefighters discovered that the floor where the fire began was a marijuana growing operation.
A resident who lived on the third floor exited the building safely, the department spokesman said. No injuries resulted from the fire.
The incident was turned over to the Los Angeles Police Department as a crime scene. Neither the LAFD nor LAPD had any immediate additional information.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
