2 allegedly put ‘card skimmers’ on Redlands gas pumps
Two men have been arrested in Redlands after police found “card skimmers†on gas pumps at two gas stations, authorities said Wednesday.
The skimmers steal credit and debit card information when a card is inserted into the reader attached to the gas pumps.
Police disabled the skimmers and started a surveillance operation to figure out who would try to retrieve them after workers at the gas stations found them Friday, according to a statement from the Redlands Police Department.
The devices were attached to a pump at a Unocal 76 at Sixth Street and Redlands Boulevard and one at a 7-Eleven on the corner of Tennessee Street and Lugonia Avenue.
On Monday, police stopped a vehicle leaving the 7-Eleven and found the skimming device inside it. Officers arrested Oscar Manuel Meza, 37, and Jose Antonio Ramirez, 33, both of San Bernardino, according to the police statement.
The police distributed fliers to other local gas stations to warn them their pumps may have been tampered with, but no other businesses have contacted them, according to the statement.
