Pink Friday: Teachers protest layoff notices
Prompted by billions of dollars in state budget cuts, more than 26,000 teachers have already received pink slips, including 2,300 in the Los Angeles Unified School District. These notices are warnings and must be finalized later this year. Educators are hopeful that many will be rescinded by the May ballot, if propositions 1A and 1B -- which would provide billions in new education spending -- are approved by voters.
