Voyager 1: In some copies of the Sept. 13 Section A, a graphic about the Voyager 1 spacecraft said that NASA scientists used radio waves to determine the spacecraft’s location. In fact, scientists measured the oscillation, or vibration, of electrons in the plasma surrounding Voyager. The frequency of these oscillations, not the frequency of radio waves, indicated to scientists that Voyager 1 was in interstellar space.

Healthcare law and the GOP: In the Sept. 12 Section A, an article about disputes among Republicans in the House of Representatives over whether to try to eliminate money for the Obama administration’s healthcare law misattributed a quote. It was Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), not Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), who referred to a proposal made by the GOP leadership as “hocus-pocus.”

Mexico teachers: In the Sept. 13 LATExtra section, an article about striking teachers occupying Mexico City’s main plaza said that President Enrique Peña Nieto was elected in December. He was elected in July 2012 and took office in December.

California Legislature: In the Sept. 13 LATExtra section, an article about state legislation that would bar government agencies from asking for a job applicant’s criminal record misidentified the bill as AB 281. The correct bill number is AB 218.
