For the record - Sept. 30, 2011
Berkeley bake sale: An article in the Sept. 28 LATExtra section about a UC Berkeley bake sale stated that SB 185 “would not violate†Proposition 209, which banned affirmative action in public university admissions 15 years ago. Proponents of SB 185 — under which the University of California and Cal State University systems would be allowed to consider race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, geographic origin and household income, along with other relevant factors, as long as no preference is given — say it would not violate the ban. A state legal opinion has said the bill is constitutional, but others challenge that finding.
L.A. River filming: An article in the Sept. 28 Business section about the popularity of the Los Angeles River as a film backdrop said the river runs behind Culver Studios. The waterway behind the lot is Ballona Creek, which was once part of the L.A. River but is now considered a separate watershed.
Toyota Camry: A review of the 2012 Toyota Camry in the Sept. 29 Business section said that the V-6 version is rated at 248 horsepower. The correct figure is 268 horsepower.
Movie marathon: The Critic’s Pick feature in the Sept. 29 Calendar section about a movie marathon at Loyola Marymount University said that Djibril Diop Mambety’s 1992 film “Hyènes†would be screening at 7:30 p.m. Friday. It is Mambety’s 1973 film “Touki Bouki†that will be shown.
