With the teams tied at 59-59 at the end of the fourth quarter, Jerry Smoots scored four points in overtime and finished with 20 points and Josh Jordan finished with a team-high 24 points for Hawthorne (3-1) in the game at Cerritos High.
Ckentrell Johnson led the Hawthorne defense, which forced Downey into a combined 10 turnovers in the fourth quarter and overtime. The Cougars also made nine of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter and made three of four attempts in overtime. They were 13 for 18 from the free-throw line in the second half and overtime.

Jones, who sat out most of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth with foul trouble, scored 10 points to lead the Eagles down the stretch. He finished with 10 rebounds and three blocks.

Victoria is expected to return for the next game.
Richmond led Garden Grove with 26 points and was the tournament MVP, averaging more than 30 points a game. Anaheim is 3-1.

Zach Evans led Chaminade with 18 points and 14 rebounds and Kevin Hufford added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Ryan Vergara had a game-high 27 points for Burroughs. Chaminade plays Simi Valley in Wednesday’s second round.

Rolando Nunez had 17 points, including 15 on three-point baskets, for Monroe (2-0) in a game at Simi Valley. Ralph Rosas, a 6-3 forward, scored 34 of Santa Clara’s 50 points, including 11 in the first quarter.
Simi Valley 51, Sun Valley Poly 50
D.J. Gay missed an off-balance 20-foot shot at the buzzer for Sun Valley Poly and Simi Valley held off a second-half rally by the Parrots.
Simi Valley held a 31-17 halftime advantage, but Gay scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half for Poly.
Caise Burris made seven of 14 three-point shot attempts and finished with 25 points to lead Simi Valley, which also got eight points from Matt Stong and 10 rebounds by Michael Rodgers.

Senior forward Colin Campbell scored 11 of his 24 points in the second quarter for Ventura (1-0) in a season-opening victory at Camarillo High.

Erik Estrada of Baldwin Park (1-0) had 18 points and teammate Miguel Dera added 13 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists at La Puente (0-1). Josh Sanchez of La Puente scored 22 points.
Bonita 50, Pomona 46
Bonita (1-0) trailed, 35-29, going into the fourth quarter before Brian Campa scored 11 of his team-high 19 points to spark the comeback win.
Bonita had a seven-point lead with more than three minutes remaining and held on for the win. Brock Zylstra had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Bonita.
Pomona (1-1) was led by David Aguilera and Kelly Johnson with 15 points each. Aguilera had four three-pointers and Johnson had three.

Sy Prescott scored 29 points for Community Harvest, which took a 36-10 halftime lead in the season opener for both teams.

Denny Granger had a game-high 20 points for host Palm Valley in a season opener for both teams.
Alex Portney had 16 points for Palm Valley, which closed the deficit from 20 to 11 with three consecutive three-pointers with four minutes left before Desert Chapel pulled away.

Ariel Barrionuevo had 24 points and junior forward Jamil Greenwood had 15 points 12 rebounds, 11 assists and five blocks for visiting Don Lugo (1-0). Arroyo is 0-1.

Efrain Naranjo scored 16 and Robert Morales had 10 rebounds and four points for El Monte (1-0), which went on a 14-0 run to start the second quarter to take a 23-13 lead. Joe Gonzalez scored 18 points for Azusa (1-0).

Craig Ballard made eight of nine field goal attempts, making both three-point shots and both free throws to finish with 20 points in a victory over visiting Highland (1-1).
Ballard also had seven rebounds and three assists and Rhett Anderson added 18 points for La Canada (1-0).

With the teams tied at 48-48 and 1:30 left, Summit View West’s Nick George rebounded a missed free throw and scored on a putback for a 50-48 edge and teammate Tony Kemp followed that basket with two layups off fast-breaks following steals made by the Wildcats’ Seger Phillips and Biko Poindexter-Hodge in a season-opening victory at Westchester Recreation Center.
Kemp, a 5-foot-11 shooting guard, finished with 16 points, and George, a 6-5 center, added 14 points and seven blocked shots for Summit View West.

Andrew Nove tied the game in regulation with 12-footer at the buzzer and Marina converted its free throws in overtime to get the season-opening victory. Matt Molino and Jeff Delaunay each had 26 points and combined to make all 12 of their free throws in the fourth quarter and overtime for Marina. Jonas Lalehzadeh had 18 points to lead University.
