LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Envelope (theenvelope.com), the Los Angeles Times' entertainment awards insider, will welcome five of film's most visionary directors at the first of its new Roundtable events. 2010 award-season favorites Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), James Cameron (Avatar), Lee Daniels (Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire), Jason Reitman (Up in the Air) and Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds) will gather on Saturday, January 16th to discuss their acclaimed films, the year in movies, and their expectations for awards season in a conversation moderated by The Times' film writer John Horn. Multimedia coverage of the closed-door discussion including a transcript, exclusive video clips and photos will be available online beginning Monday, January 18th.

"The Envelope is the indispensable source for comprehensive entertainment awards coverage and we're thrilled to inaugurate our Roundtable Series with these esteemed directors," said The Envelope Editor Elena Howe. "This is a natural extension of our successful Envelope Screening Series and further enriches the perspective on the year in film for the industry insiders, awards-junkies and fans who rely on The Times' entertainment news."

The Roundtable Series is expected to expand to other aspects of filmmaking in the future, including acting, writing, composing and cinematography. It follows on the heels of the third annual Envelope Screening Series (theenvelope.com/screeningseries), which showcased the largest slate of films to date for Academy and guild members and offered revealing Q&A sessions with filmmakers and stars moderated by The Times' entertainment editors and writers.

The Envelope launched in 2005 and quickly established itself as the leading source of up-to-the-minute entertainment awards information online, in print and on screen. Its audience is a distinctive blend of influential film, television and music purveyors and fans, all of whom gravitate to its state-of-the-race award season analysis, Tom O'Neil's Gold Derby blog (theenvelope.com/goldderby), expert predictions at the Buzzmeter (theenvelope.com/buzzmeter), live chats, photo galleries, discussion forums and a growing portfolio of events.
