Gwen Murakami Appointed Los Angeles Times Vice President, Human Resources
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10, 2004 – Gwen Murakami has been appointed vice president, human resources of the Los Angeles Times, effective immediately. She has been serving as acting director, human resources since December 2003. Murakami will be responsible for all human resources, organization and employee development programs, including human resources strategy development and tactical execution. She will report to John Puerner, publisher, Los Angeles Times.
“Gwen is an outstanding professional who is well-respected throughout the organization,†said Puerner. “She has performed admirably in managing all areas of human resources during the last few months and I’m delighted to officially name her to this position.â€
Murakami joined The Times in 1999 as human resources generalist to the advertising and marketing departments. She was promoted to director, employee relations in 2000, responsible for a team of employee relations generalists assigned to internal client groups who provide guidance on various workforce issues related to key business initiatives.
Prior to joining The Times, Murakami was vice president, human resources for the Western Region of MediaOne from 1995 to 1999.
Murakami earned a bachelor of arts degree from California State University, Los Angeles, where she also completed graduate course work. She is a member of the Human Resources Planning Society and Society for Human Resources Management and a former member of the board of directors of the National Assn. of Minorities in Cable and the Cable Television Human Resources Assn.
