Panorama: Inside NASA’s Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft
This modified NASA Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft brought the space shuttle Endeavour to Los Angeles from the Kennedy Space Center on Friday. After a welcoming ceremony for Endeavour at Los Angeles International Airport, visitors were allowed to tour the inside of NASA's modified Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft that brought the space shuttle to Los Angeles on Friday. The SCA, one of two, was used to transport space shuttles from landing sites back to the launch complex at the Kennedy Space Center. The orbiters were placed atop the 747s by mate-demate devices, large gantry-like structures that lift the orbiters off the ground for post-flight servicing and then attach them to the SCAs for ferry flights.
