NBC orders Dick Wolf reality series ‘You the Jury’
NBC is letting its viewers take justice into their own hands with a new court show from Dick Wolf, tentatively titled “You the Jury.”
The live, one-hour reality show will put an interactive spin on the crime procedurals Wolf has come to be known for, with viewers determining the verdict in real-life civil cases. (Think of it as “The Voice” meets “The People’s Court,” but live.) Wolf will executive produce with Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz and Tom Thayer.
The reality series combines two dominant programming trends at NBC: live events and shows produced by Wolf.
INTERACTIVE: Network TV shuffle
The network has spearheaded a revival of the live-TV format with annual musicals (“The Wiz” is up next on Dec. 3) and sitcoms (a live episode of “Undateable” aired earlier this week).
“You the Jury” will bring Wolf’s tally of shows in prime time at NBC to five. The network recently added a third Windy City-set drama, “Chicago Med,” to a lineup that already includes the Wolf-produced “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.” NBC also renewed Wolf’s “Law & Order: SVU” for a 17th season earlier this year.
