Fox kills off ‘The Following,’ ‘Backstrom’
Fox has canceled Kevin Bacon’s serial killer drama, “The Following,” and Rainn Wilson’s quirky “Backstrom” series.
“The Following,” which starred Bacon as a former FBI agent who is stalked by a lethal serial murderer lasted three seasons. Although it started strongly, its popularity had ebbed in the last two seasons. The series had also faced criticism from some critics for depictions of vicious violence.
“Big love to all our loyal fans,” tweeted Bacon. “It’s been an honor to work for you. Sweat, tears and a lot of Blood! Enjoy the final four of #THEFOLLOWING.”
“Backstrom” starred Wilson as a grumpy and antisocial detective. The show, which premiered earlier this year, never really caught on with viewers.
“Sometimes you’re the windshield, and sometimes you’re the bug,” tweeted the show’s creator, Hart Hanson, who is also the creator of the veteran “Bones, which was renewed for an 11th season.
