CBS orders Gary Sinise ‘Criminal Minds’ spinoff, 5 other new shows

“Criminal Minds” is getting its passport stamped.

CBS on Friday announced drama and comedy orders for the 2015-16 TV season, including “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders,” a spinoff of the crime drama, this time with Gary Sinise heading an FBI team that helps Americans endangered overseas.

“Beyond Borders” was a “planted spinoff” — that is, the premise was introduced during a “Criminal Minds” episode earlier this season.

The 60-year-old Sinise starred in CBS’ “CSI: NY” from 2004 to 2013.

CBS also picked up “Angel From Hell,” a Jane Lynch comedy in which a young woman has a prickly relationship with a woman claiming to be her guardian angel, and “Life in Pieces,” a family sitcom with Dianne Wiest and James Brolin.

Rounding out the drama orders are “Code Black,” a medical drama with Marcia Gay Harden, “Limitless,” an adaptation of the 2011 Bradley Cooper movie about a man with extraordinary powers, and a series remake of the movie hit “Rush Hour.”

CBS will announce its complete fall lineup next week to advertisers in New York.
