Amazon’s new batch of pilots all kids’ shows

Amazon Studios announced its latest batch of greenlighted pilots on Monday, and instead of the usual mix of comedy, drama and children’s programming, the online service is focusing exclusively on the kids this time.

The studio is greenlighting four animated kids’ pilots and two live-action kids’ pilots.

“The Adventures of Knickerbock Teetertop” is geared for preschool-aged children and features the exploits of the smallest kid on Wonderpine Mountain, who wants to grow up to be an adventurer like his grandfather. The series was created by the brother-sister team of Adam Wilson and Melanie Wilson LaBracio.

“Lost in Oz,” meant for 6- to 11-year-olds, is an animated pilot pairing Dorothy Gale with West, a young witch fighting to resist the temptation to the dark side in the modern, bustling Emerald City. Developed and produced by Bureau of Magic’s Darin Mark, Jared Mark, Abram Makowka and Mark Warshaw.

“Lily the Unicorn,” produced by the Jim Henson Co., is an animated series starring a young unicorn whose everyday adventures have a tendency to become whimsical at the drop of a hat. It’s based on the popular children’s book by Dallas Clayton.

“Bear in Underwear” is based on the bestselling book series by Todd Goldman. Goldman and “That ‘70s Show” writer Dave Schiff collaborated on the pilot script about an ambitious young bear who walks around the forest wearing a pair of tighty-whities.

“A History of Radness” is a live-action look at the formation of a band by middle school outcasts Jack and Tessie. The pilot is written and executive produced by “Hannah Montana” writer Andrew Green and will feature original songs by Hutch Harris of the Thermals and a score by former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha. Henry Rollins will guest star and Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds and Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino will narrate.

Another live-action pilot, “The Kicks,” is based on a book series by U.S. Olympic gold medalist and current U.S. Women’s National Team soccer player Alex Morgan. “Gilmore Girls” writer David Babcock did the adaptation, which follows a star soccer player who moves with her family to a California town midway through a school year and she discovers she must rally her new school’s team in order to make them competitive at all.

The new pilots will debut on Amazon later this summer and will be open for voting and feedback from viewers to help determine which will be picked up to series.
