ABC orders comedies ‘Dr. Ken,’ ‘Real O’Neals,’ ‘Muppets’ reboot
ABC will add just three new comedies next season - and one of them has a familiar frog and pig.
The network late Thursday officially ordered “Dr. Ken,” a family sitcom with Ken Jeong as a brilliant physician with a less-than-stellar bedside manner.
Martha Plimpton is among the stars of “The Real O’Neals,” about a Catholic family forced to recognize uncomfortable truths after a surprising truth emerges about the clan.
ABC is also attempting a reboot of “The Muppets,” the Jim Henson characters made famous through a 1970s variety show and later movies and ads. This time the network promises a “documentary” that will explore the personal lives of Kermit, Miss Piggy and others for a show that will be “more adult.”
Three new comedies is a fairly small number for a broadcast network. But with “Modern Family,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” “Black-ish” and other returning shows, ABC executives may have figured they had little room for more.
ABC will officially announce the fall schedule next week in New York.
