Instagram photo coasters? That’s Coastermatic

Instagram, the hot iPhone app that allows you to share retro-looking photos on Facebook, is quickly inspiring new products for the home. The latest comes from Coastermatic, which creates round sandstone coasters printed with your Instagram photos.

Customers log on to their Instagram account and select four pictures. Each image is then printed digitally onto a coaster using a dot-matrix style process. The finished pieces usually arrive in the mail in six to 10 days. Price: $25 for a set of four. Shipping is $6. The coasters have a foam base, so hand washing is suggested.

Coastermatic is a collaboration of Tom Harman and Tash Wong, who met as master’s of fine arts students at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Their operation follows Postagram, which allows you to print and ship Instagram postcards; Printstagram, which turns your smartphone photos into T-shirts and prints; and Stickygram, which produces Instagram magnets.
