L.A.’s Arts District continues to be a magnet for fresh retail buzz, with the latest event coming via Brooklyn, N.Y.
Artists & Fleas, a curated marketplace for enthusiasts of vintage and handcrafted goods, has become a destination in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood and at Manhattan’s Chelsea Market. Now it’s setting up shop in downtown Los Angeles this Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“We’ve always enjoyed immersing ourselves and fostering a community in a neighborhood poised for growth and bursting with creativity,” says co-founder Ronen Glimer. “We did it when we started in Williamsburg 10 years ago, and we feel that the Arts District is a kindred spirit.”
Vendors include Mt. Washington Pottery, downtown-based Groceries Apparel, RotdCreations potted succulent gardens and MFEO reclaimed wood furnishings. Glimer and Artists & Fleas co-founder Amy Abrams have invited some New York City-based designers and sellers to participate in the market’s Los Angeles premiere too. There will be food vendors and a DJ on site.
The weekend event is a pilot project of sorts. “All of the exciting things happening in art, design, food and fashion across the city -- but especially in and around downtown L.A. -- make us extremely enthusiastic and looking forward to the possibilities for creating a West Coast market,” Glimer says.
