The White House’s State Dining Room gets a makeover

The chairs feature a grid-patterned “horsehair� fabric and are trimmed with brass nail heads.

The chairs were modeled after chairs that President Monroe brought home in 1818.

The silk drapes feature shades of ecru, a peacock blue that is said to mirror the “Kailua� blue in the room’s china, as well as recall the waters surrounding the president’s home state of Hawaii.
